WEIRD AND WONDERFUL FINDS ON THRIVE

Sponsored by Thrive

Thrive’s “food discovery and ordering app”, has over 14,000 restaurants across the city. That’s a lot of discovery. Here are some of the most unusual ones Team enthu came across.

A few weeks ago, enthu’s editor Roshni was trying to find her next meal on Thrive, when she stumbled upon Your Coconut Guy. What is YCG, you ask? It’s a twist on all things coconut. And no we don’t mean, coconut ice-cream or coconut milkshake.

We immediately started burrowing into Thrive’s inventory, looking for more such little-known brands and food entrepreneurs offering fun, unusual, creative takes on food. And we found plenty. For instance, a place called Huckin’ Fungry! does pepperoni pizza in a pao, and we discovered an ice cream brand because of its puran poli scoops. We have a list now; here it is.

Your Coconut Guy serves tender coconut juices, tender coconut shakes, and a coconut ice-cream. But what is most unusual is the flavour pairings that this brand does. Their coconut shakes include avocado coconut, blueberry coconut, cappuccino coconut, and Oreo coconut, while their range of mixed juices has combinations like coconut water with green apple, grape, mint, celery, and pineapple juice.

FBK seems to be the place to look if we want to plan a quick party at home or at work and need a convenient caterer. They do a variety of cuisines from which we can select items and dishes by the kilo (as with fish cigars), or by the piece (as with roti and pav). From Indian and Mughlai to Thai and Italian, FBK delivers fresh,  readymade food. You can bulk buy or get a regular meal. FBK also does several varieties of kimchi and a DIY starters kit.

The Hemp Factory is India’s first hemp-infused hybrid kitchen chain. Their goal is to empower modern-day lifestyles by providing wholesome nutrition. As the name suggests, THF’s focus is hemp, a complete source of protein. The brand has substituted regular maida with hemp flour. They have hemp pizza crust and hemp mayo. They use hemp oil in cooking and hemp seeds for garnishing. THF offers a multi-cuisine menu with over 40 dishes, and they are FSSAI (Food Safety and Security Authority of India) approved.

Here are two unusual things about Biryani Can – first, they serve only vegetarian biryani (their tagline is ‘Less the Meat, More the Taste’), and second, they serve the biryani in an environmentally-friendly reusable can to eat on the go. We think this is a very neat idea – biryani typically comes in plastic boxes and aluminum foil containers, prone to spills and leaks.

Biryani Can offers a range of large and mini cans with biryanis like pindi chole, soya chaap, paneer tikka, and more. They also sell desserts and other snacks, not necessarily in cans.

It’s the name that caught our attention, a mashup of eggs and Bollywood. Turns out, even their categories are Bollywood-themed (All Time Super-hits!, Trending Now, Healthy Like Salman, Veg Main Hoon). Anda Apna Apna serves all things egg (of course) and the names of their dishes are delightful. They have an all-day breakfast menu, some chef-special dishes, half-egg dishes, and more.

enthuFact: It’s on our editor’s ‘go to’ list.

Of course, we chose Huckin’ because of its name. Well, the name is just a part of it. Huckin’ Fungry does a crisp range of burgers, hot meals, rolls, and desserts. A fun section of their menu is the punny Pao Gully – offering paos stuffed with all manner of fun foods. There is a Massaman Curried Tofu pao, Pork Pepperoni Pizza pao, and Crispy Bbq Jackfruit pao. Among burgers, there is the katsu curried chicken burger, the Chickpea Charmer, and the Samurai Spud.
